The challenge of living slow when the world says GO!

First cup of coffee in my hand and I can already feel all the pressures of the day trying to sneak in and steal my peace.

Do you get that feeling?  Like,"Hey, you have got a ton of things on your to do list.  Get up and go!"

The last few months I have made a concerted effort to prioritize leaving a lot of room for .... for whatever comes.  And it has been beautiful.  Children and animals especially feel when you are on a mission and they usually step out of your way.  Now that I am slowing down, they come to me and ask to talk, about deep things, or if it's Vicki, it's one of her unending PORQUE questions :)  Or sharing they are having a problem with math or reading and want help.

Or my cats come sit with me.  Or that call to a loved one happens.  The quiet space isn't empty, its just filled with more meaningful things.

Yep, I still have a ton of things on my todo list and they will get done.  I just know that if my life ends tomorrow, I would rather have given that last hug, listened to that last sweet conversation, answered that last silly question, than to have put the supply room in order or cleaned up my dining room table (which is an absolute mess!).

One thing that has helped me  is The Five Minute Journal.

Three prompts in the morning

1) I am grateful for ...

   2) What would make this day great?

   3) Daily affirmation.

Two prompts in the evening

   1) Highlights of the day

   2) What did I learn today?

Those questions have helped me be more thoughtful about what I prioritize and what I am looking for in my day and then help me remember the awesome things that happened!  I put the link below if you would like to check it out.

I would love to learn what things you have implemented to help slow down the world!

Here's to stayng slow in a busy season so that you can savor the moments that truly matter.
