One of the devastating results of life as an orphan or underprivileged child is the inability to dream of a future different from what they see around them. They have God given potential but without significant help they are stuck in a cycle of poverty.
While there are exceptions to the rule, many children fall into sexual promiscuity and pregnancy, illegal activities, or simply repeat the cycle of poverty their parents experienced.
Our Story
------------
My name is Anita Maddox. My husband Thad and I first visited Casa Hogar Elim Orphanage in Nuevo Laredo, Mexico, in 2009 and fell in love with the beautiful children who call it home.
While the orphanage is a safe haven, the children were clearly experiencing a lack of hope for the future. There was no one to teach them how to dream and no one to help make those dreams come true.
For eight years, Thad and I, alongside others, tried implementing a variety of programs each month when we visited. After many failures, it became clear that without hands and feet on the ground there would be no change. We could not tell them how to change; we had to be willing to show them and do it with them.
After much prayer and consultation with friends and family, and an invitation from the orphanage, Thad and I made the decision to go all in!
Our Mission

In 2017, we moved to the orphanage and dedicated our lives to the children.Gift of Dignity, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, was created to allow others to partner with us in this mission.
Now, eight years in, there is:
** A fully operational learning center supporting all levels of education through university and technical schools.
** A carpentry workshop built with help from global.org.
** A transition program, launched in 2025, to prepare older youth for successful life outside the orphanage.
** Ongoing support for food, medicine, operational expenses, and a small farm with chickens and a garden.
Our Goal

Our goal is to prepare these children for a successful life, for them to feel confident and loved.Through it all, each child is pointed to Jesus Christ as their Savior so that they can experience a life of purpose and fulfill their God-given potential.

While we are willing hands and feet, we cannot do this alone. We need help. This orphanage receives no support from the government; it is run 100% on donations. We humbly ask for your financial support and for your prayers.
